Fine trout, ample public water. No wonder it’s so popular. Ever seen a great trout stream pull a disappearing act? That’s what you get with Fishing Creek, sometimes known as “Big” Fishing Creek to differentiate it from others of the same appellation in Pennsylvania’s Columbia and Potter Counties. During warm weather when flows are low, this Fishing Creek slides underground upstream from the Interstate 80 bridge and resurfaces—cleaned, cooled, and refreshed —above Mackeyville where it almost seems to begin anew. If only other streams had this gift. Species: Brown, brook. Angling methods: spin, and fly-fishing.
