Powdermill Nature Reserve Tour Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This is an especially enjoyable place for children who are fascinated with the animals (not live) on display within the Nimick Nature Center as well as the many butterflies at the butterfly bush on the side of the building.

The Powdermill Nature Reserve is a research station of Carnegie Museum that was established in 1956, when General and Mrs. Richard K. Mellon and Mr. and Mrs. Alan M. Scaife presented 1,160 acres of land to the Carnegie Institute for the use of its Natural History Museum. Over the next several years, additional acreage was added through other gifts, providing the reserve with more than 2,200 acres of woodlands, streams, open fields, ponds, and thickets."
