The Hemlock Trail runs for the first part of the loop along the beautiful Laurel Hill Creek. The scenery here is spectacular with moss carpeting small rocks and boulders, the creek running wide and clear, and virgin hemlocks providing the final magic touch. The Hemlock Natural Area at the center of the Hemlock Trail loop contains the only virgin trees remaining in this park. The eastern hemlock was officially made Pennsylvania’s state tree in 1931 with the signature of Governor Gifford Pinchot.
