Mount Davis Professional Review and Guide
"Who wouldn’t want to ride on the highest point in Pennsylvania? The Mount Davis Natural Area and neighboring Negro Mountain are rich in both natural and local history and also contain unique geologic features. Although the air isn’t any thinner here, it’s a special place to take a spin and check out the sights.
The area received its name from John Davis, a Civil War vet, land surveyor, and naturalist who spent most of his time studying the diversity of life on and around the mountain. The mountains here were never settled, due to the poor soil conditions, strange weather, and quantity of rock that littered the woods. Highlights: highest natural point in Pennsylvania (elevation 3,213 feet), scenic vistas, unique rock formations, interpretive stations, observation tower. Tread: fire roads for the most part, with a fun section of grassy doubletrack and very short sections of paved road."
