This ride is part of an ever-expanding network of rail-trail along this section of the old Pennsylvania Railroad. The ride begins at the old Carman siding and passes through some of the most historic points along the entire tract. Built in 1885 as part of the Pennsylvania Railroad, the Ridgeway-Clearfield branch stretches 45 miles and was used to haul timber from the mills in the northern region to the main rail lines that lie further south. In 1968 the last train passed through the valley; four years later the tracks were removed and the Pennsylvania Game Commission purchased sections of the adjoining lands. The ride follows the Little Toby Creek, which is a designated trout stream. The creek feeds the Clarion River, which has been designated by Congress as a Wild and Scenic River. Highlights: the historic Ridgeway-to-Clearfield rail grade, historic quarry operation ruins, numerous ghost towns, swinging span bridge over Toby Creek. Tread: the entire ride follows the cinder-covered original railbed grade.

For Rail trails this is one of the best. It is far away from roads so there is little raod noice. It is very peaceful. It has I nice conopy of trees on almost all the trail. The surface is excellent and of course like most rail trails it follows a scenic stream. I have never ridden a better trail.

This is a descent trail, if you like long winding rides. However, it is not at all as scenic as the description and web site make it out to be.
