Jennings Environmental Education Center Professional Review and Guide
"The center routinely hosts programs for children and adults on everything from tree identification and wildflowers to rattlesnakes and Native American culture. Most are free, and all are open to the public, so you can often plan a hike around another opportunity to learn about nature. The massasauga is a rattlesnake, one of three kinds that live in Pennsylvania. It’s the smallest—20 to 30 inches—and by far the most rare. Found only in the western third of the state, they need old fields and meadows marked by low-lying wet spots with higher dry ground nearby. That mix is increasingly hard to find, and the snakes have suffered as a result, so much so that they’re on the state’s endangered species list."
