So, who is the Weiser in Weiser State Forest? Almost forgotten in modern history books, Conrad Weiser's accomplishments as a diplomat made him a legend in his day. He was constantly sought out as a Native American negotiator. Through hi treaties, travels, and land deals, he kept the area peaceful for both Native Americans and whites. After Weiser's death, in 1760, relations between Native Americans and whites were never the same.
If you are in the Reading area stop by the Conrad Weiser Homestead. The 26-acre park is nestled between gentle rolling hills in Berks County. Located in the park are a visitor center, several restored buildings, a monument to Weiser, as well as his gravesite. Also, there's a lot of good mountain biking in the Hamburg area. Feel free to explore the trails that weave through the State Game Lands and Weiser State Forest. Terrain: Singletrack, doubletrack, and dirt roads.
