Riverview Park Loop Trail Professional Review and Guide
"The hillside in front of the Allegheny Observatory, where the hike begins, is especially beautiful in early spring (late March through mid-April or so) when many of the trees planted here are in spectacular bloom. Plan your hike for April through October on a late Thursday or Friday afternoon, and couple it with a tour of the observatory in the evening.
Riverview Park was known as Watson Farms in the era of 1894, when the city of Allegheny purchased 200 acres of land from Samuel Watson. The former dairy farm and grazing land became a prized park with an amphitheater, merry-go-round, and small zoo that even had an elk paddock. These attractions do not exist today, but the park has grown to 287 acres and has added hiking and equestrian trails, playgrounds, special-event facilities and pavilions, and a pool."
