The Panhandle Trail is chock-full of interesting diversions, and is a great place for family hiking and picnicking. The trail is suitable for hikers, joggers, or bikers of every age and ability level. It is also easy to navigate with a stroller or wheelchair. When you enter the trailhead you will be immediately impressed with the quality of this trail, and you will not be disappointed during the entire hike. Only a few feet away from the trailhead on the right, stop and take in the butterfly garden, which is adorned with colorful butterfly houses interspersed with orange, white, yellow, and purple colors from daylilies, black-eyed Susans, hostas, and other flowering beauties. If you pause here you will find that the garden is doing its job, as there will be several species of butterflies enjoying it. Within sight, about 30 feet farther along the trail, is a welcoming picnic pavilion equipped with a grill that is roomy enough for a family or two. If you are traveling with a family, this is a great place to picnic either before or after using the trial. There is also a portable toilet at the trailhead.
