Kings Gap

Kings Gap Professional Review and Guide

"Beginning at the trailhead for the Scenic Vista Trail and Buck Ridge Trail, follow the Scenic Vista Trail to the Pond Day use area. From there, follow the Watershed and Boundary trails along the perimeter of the park and ascend back to the trailhead from Kings Gap Hollow via a walk along the Ridge Overlook Trail and Maple Hollow Trail.

Unique among Pennsylvania state parks, the Kings Gap Environmental Education Center is oriented more toward activities and programs that promote a greater understanding of the natural world than toward purely recreational purposes. The center consists of about 2,500 acres of scenic woodlands that are home to several day-use areas, 16 miles of hiking
trails, a visitor center, and a majestic 32-room mansion situated on a mountaintop in the South Mountain region of south-central Pennsylvania."

This started out as a nice wide path, easy walking path. The first couple of miles are nice and they are a bit rocky. The views are breathtaking when you reach each vista. The last 2 miles are pretty challenging because of the steepness and rocky trails, but are well worth the trip. The blazes that are mentioned in this trail have all been changed, but if you stick to the description of the guide you will not have any problems. The author really described everything in detail, so as long as you follow that you'll be fine. We really enjoyed this hike, this is the second hike we did from this author!
