New Freedom - York Country Heritage Rail Trail Professional Review and Guide
"The York Country Heritage Trail offers a scenic ride through the woods, farms, and small towns of southern York County. This trails shares the corridor with an active rail line, so you may see-and hear-a train. It's a slow train, though and bikes can go faster than it does. Today the York Country Heritage Rail Trail is a flat recreational corridor through a rather hilly area. Along the trail you'll see an emu farm and several small towns where you can stop for supplies.
Glen Rock is the biggest settlement, and the trail goes straight through the center of town, past restaurants and stores. On weekends and trail fills with runners, walkers, and bikers, so you're interested in cruising, it's best to visit on a weekday. The highlight of the trail is the opportunity to ride without having to think about cars, except at road crossings. The scenery is excellent, and on hot days the trees keep much of the trail pleasantly shaded. New Freedom is the highest point on the trail, and the grade is noticeable in spots. If you do tire, however, you can sit and rest on one of the many benches along the way. The road surface is good."
