This 69.3-mile drive follows Loyalsock, Little Loyalsock, and Mehoopany creeks through the Endless Mountains of Pennsylvania, blending rural and wooded canyon-and-rim images. On its northeast-arcing way, it passes from the West Branch Susquehanna River to the upper Susquehanna River. This drive begins by following the curvaceous, sable beauty of Loyalsock Creek upstream through a spectacular canyon setting tucked away in the southwest corner of the Endless Mountains. The tour passes through state forest and private lands. As it continues northeast, it becomes progressively more rural and private.
Little Loyalsock Creek hosts the middle leg of the journey before Mehoopany Creek takes the tour downstream to the Susquehanna River. Special attractions: Creek views, but limited access; drive-to and hike-to vista knobs; covered bridges; fall foliage; hiking, picnicking, trout fishing, kayaking. This eTrail is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more.
