This ride will take you over the back roads of eastern Berks County, through farmland and woodlands. Traffic is light and much of the route is shaded, so it's good for a hot day. Daniel Boone was one of the great American frontiersmen. The Daniel Boone Homestead is maintained to show how Boone lived when he wasn't off exploring the wilds of the new nation. It also shows how the early English and German settlers in the area lived. On the grounds are Boone's house, a blacksmith shop, a barn, a sawmill, a visitors center, trails, and a picnic area. The road surface is mostly good; rough in French Creek Park.

At about the 6 mile point, the bridge was out over the creek so we couldn't turn onto Main Street. Took the detour which took us about 4.5 miles out of our way. Not wanting to do an extra 9 miles RT in the 94 degree heat, we passed the turn onto Shed Road toward French Creek and stayed on the road we were on. At about the 12-mile point, we picked up the Schuylkill River Trail's Thun Trail and followed that to Birdsboro. From there we followed South Center Road back to the Daniel Boone Homestead. Total ride approx 16 miles.

The ride was hillier that we had thought. the beginning and end are through farmland and is great. The highway was busier that we also thought. It is a great ride for those who need hill training.
