Loyalsock Trail Professional Review and Guide
"This hike begins with a difficult, steep climb up the side of a gorge. It’s a challenging climb with short switchbacks and rock and root handholds. Once on top you cross a plateau with huckleberry bushes and pine plantations. From the plateau’s edge there are spectacular views and a cool breeze that sweeps up the gorge. There is no warm-up period on this hike; it’s an assault from the very first step. As soon as you sign in at the trail register, you begin a 0.7-mile climb up the side of Loyalsock Gorge. The climb is steep—if it were any steeper, you’d need to trade in your hiking boots for mountain climbing gear. At the summit you’ll come out onto a plateau. Interestingly, you’re on top of the Allegheny High Plateau, which comprises the northern and western regions of the Appalachian Plateau."
