Green valleys, scenic overviews, excellent food stops, and historical perspectives combine to make this a great 64-mile day for fit riders. The 64-mile challenge through Wayne and Susquehanna Counties can be shortened to cruises of 39 or 32 miles or even a ramble of 24 miles. Note that two of the rides start in Lenox and the other starts in Susquehanna.
From a history of railways, coal, furniture-making, quarries, logging, and subsistence farming, the ride will take you past a buffalo ranch, game lands for hunting, and Elk Mountain Ski Center, upscale shops, ski condos, B&Bs and fine food. Terrain: Gently rolling. There is one steep climb on SR 2046 from Gelatt to SR 2077 on the 32-mile cruise; there is also a steep climb on SR 2046 from PA 171 to Burnwood on the 39-mile cruise and the 64-mile challenge.
