This hike provides two views via power-line clearings obtained by climbing through pretty wooded sections, as well as a walk through meadows and along Blacklick Creek and a wetland. The uphill hike can be reduced or even avoided by following other trails and giving up the view. The Blacklick Valley Natural Area is divided into three tracts, encompassing a total of 713 acres, 300 of which make up the Parker Tract. (The other two tracts do not have developed trails.) According to Indiana County Park literature, the first recorded owner of what is now the Parker Tract was William Bracken, who purchased 309 acres from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1786. The property has since changed hands many times and was donated to Indiana County parks in 1995 by Penny and David Russell.
