Trough Creek State Park

Trough Creek State Park Professional Review and Guide

"Bring your camera on this hike and get a picture of the famous Balanced Rock—a rock hanging on the edge of the cliff and looking like it could topple into the valley at any moment .Along the way you’ll cross a bridge at Rainbow Falls for another great photo opportunity. The trail then descends into the valley for an exploration of a cave-like hole in the ground known as the Ice Mine.

Hiking the trails of Trough Creek State Park gives you firsthand knowledge of the ridge and valley system of Pennsylvania’s mountains. One early Pennsylvania traveler
wrote in his journal: “Pennsylvania’s mountains are old and ornery, and equally inaccessible in all directions.” When you begin the steep ascent up the Boulder Trail, you learn right off that what makes the mountains so ornery is that they’re steep and, in many places, rocky."
