Aside from a peaceful, private campground, the real attraction to camping at Penn-Roosevelt State Park is the access it provides to wonderful backcountry that is a bit off the beaten path.Penn-Roosevelt State Park is one of my favorite places to camp in Pennsylvania, due in part to its location. The park is located in a rather secluded area in the heart of Pennsylvania’s Seven Mountains region, a tight network of ridges and valleys just southeast of State College. Although the park itself is small (only 41 acres), it is surrounded by nearly 80,000 acres of the Rothrock State Forest, which offers plenty of opportunities for recreation and exploration. But you have to walk, drive, or ride a bike a short distance to reach them.

Camped at Penn-Roosevelt and hiked about 7 miles south on Mid-state Trail. Good trail condition, but not much scenery except rhododendrons of unusual size (RUS)
