Stony Mountain from the North

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Stony Mountain from the North Professional Review and Guide

"This wonderful hike follows the Appalachian Trail as it traverses the north side of Stony Mountain to the ridge line, where it joins the Horse-Shoe Trail at its western terminus. After descending the Horse-Shoe Trail for 0.6 miles, it joins Rattling Run Road at the Devils Race Course and the old town site of Rattling Run.

From here, the hike follows Rattling Run Road up to Third Mountain, where it picks up the northern extension of the Water Tank Trail and descends the mountain, concluding the loop. A short (1.2 miles round-trip) side trip brings you to the site of the Stony Mountain Lookout Tower."
