Cove Mountain and Hawk Rock Loop

Cove Mountain and Hawk Rock Loop Professional Review and Guide

"This hike ascends Cove Mountain to the Hawk Rock Overlook via the Appalachian Trail (AT). From the overlook, it traverses Cove Mountain, makes a brief side trip to the Cove Mountain Shelter, and picks up a side trail that descends to the north. At the bottom of the trail, this hike heads east on a dirt road along a tributary of Sherman Creek and joins Sherman Creek proper about a mile from the end."

The beginning of this trail was very challenging. It was basically straight up the mountain to the overlook. The view was awesome, but the graffiti all over the rocks was an eyesore. After the overlook you take a very nice hike out along the top. take the detour to the shelter and have a little picnic. The walk is straight down the mountain, but is well worth the trip. On the way back down the mountain it is straight down until you get to the dirt road. The last three miles is on this dirt road and this is why I gave it 4 stars. I really enjoyed the hike and would highly recommend it to anyone. Take lots of water!
