The Pinnacle

The Pinnacle Professional Review and Guide

"Walk the Appalachian Trail for spectacular views of Hawk Mountain, the Lehigh Valley, and Blue Rocks. Many Appalachian Trail thru-hikers claim the views at The Pinnacle are the best views on the Pennsylvania stretch of the Appalachian Trail.

On this hike you’ll get a vigorous workout climbing up the rocky path to the top then get a reprieve as you make a gentle descent on a wide dirt road. This is an extremely popular trail."

"This ride has the feeling of being bigger than it is. The hill climb up to the helipad is steep in sections and the tread is very rocky along the way. You really feel like your deep in the mountains even through you're only a few miles from Interstate 78. The ride takes you on an uphill climb through stands of lovely mountain laurel and pine and then along beautiful Furnace Creek.

The last section to the Pinnacle is very rocky and technical. It's also very short-lived and can be easily walked. Once on top of the Pinnacle you're rewarded with great views overlooking Hawk Mountain, the Lehigh Valley, and Blue Rocks. The top of the Pinnacle is also a great place to view hawks riding the wind currents along Kittatinny Ridge. Terrain: Singletrack, doubletrack, and dirt roads."

The larger loop is just about 9 miles and parts of it travel along the Appalachian trail. Better have sturdy hiking boots for some of the trail is very rocky (which of course adds to the fun).
