We enjoyed this ride a lot because of the beautiful scenery and history. Had to maneuver with the cars through the sites, but it was workable.
Do not rely solely on the map or directions in this guide. Make sure you have a current map of Gettysburg with you. There is a new visitors center and the directions in the guide are from the old center. The directions are also going agaist traffic thru the battlefield area and this may be a problem. We followed the directions in reverse with no trouble. Be ready to ride thru quite a bit of traffic in the city section if you go during tourist season.
On the positive side it is a very nice ride, easily completed in a leisurely 4 hours. I've been through Gettysburg many times and was able to see things I've never seen before. Very historic an nice scenery
This is a beautiful ride with an unbelievable history to be learned along the way. The roads are in excellent shape and the traffic is at a slow pace.
Went with a group of beginner bicyclist. We had no trouble at all. It just so happened that the weekend we went was a temperature breaking weekend but there are many places to refill water bottles. We enjoyed tremendously. Our group did benefit from one of our own being a Gettysburg buff so much of the history was narrated to the rest of the group. Seeing Gettysburg on bike is the way to do it.
It was a hot day, but there are trees at points on the trail to cool down. You have to contend with many cars so keep your eyes on the road, which is hard sometimes given the many monuments to see. Was off the bike often, so leave at least 3 hours for the tour.
