Pine Grove Furnace State Park

Pine Grove Furnace State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"OK, so it’s not the most scenic or challenging section of the Appalachian Trail by any means. But take this walk through Pine Grove Furnace State Park and you can say you trod the mighty Appalachian Trail. You’ll accomplish something else along the way.

That is, you’ll see almost all of the historic structures in the park. Begin by parking in the gravel lot in front of the furnace stack. First built in 1794 and last used in 1895, the stack has been renovated several times over the years. Most recently it got a new concrete top in 2014. It’s possible to walk around the base of it and even stoop down to wander inside a bit, to get an up-close look."
