Although only 0.5 mile long, a hike along the Creek Trail at dusk is a wonderful way to end the day amid beautiful hemlocks beside a peaceful mountain creek. Pine Grove Furnace State Park has long been one of my favorite getaways in central Pennsylvania. In the summer, it is a nice place to ride bikes along the roads and bike trails or to go for short hikes on its 6 miles of hiking trails. The park also has two lakes, Laurel Lake and Fuller Lake, each with a beach for swimming. Laurel Lake, the larger of the two, allows boating and has a boat and bicycle rental concession. Both offer good trout fishing, as does Mountain Creek, which runs between the two lakes.
