Caledonia State Park Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Thaddeus Stevens was not, by any measure, an ambiguous man. A lawyer and politician, he was passionate and principled, with a fierce and oftentimes biting wit. Editorial writers at the New York Times in his day called him “the evil genius of the Republican party.”
It’s ironic then that the historical trail that bears his name in Caledonia State Park is so subtly misleading. The Thaddeus Stevens Historic Trail allows visitors to check out remnants, some original, some reconstructed, of the iron furnace he operated at the site for years. All is not as it seems, though."
