Coal was attraction that brought thousands of European immigrants to northeastern Pennsylvania during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. At Eckley you can get a glimpse of life in a mining town. You'll be able to see several strip mines as you ride. Along the route you can see coal mines that are still operating. You'll also see some amazing sights where grass and trees have somehow managed to grow in the residue left from the mining and refining processes. The road surface is fair.

couple steep hills on fairly busy, curvy roads with little to no shoulder. Tight traffic through the town--cars parked on both sides of the road so not much room to navigate. Definitely not an easy ride for beginners. Won't do it again.
