This lovely hike begins by following the multiuse Dauphin and Susquehanna Railroad Grade for 2 miles along the Stony Creek Valley. At 2 miles, it picks up the Water Tank Trail and climbs steeply to the ridge of Stony Mountain, where it meets with Rattling Run Road. A short (1.2 miles round-trip) detour takes you to the Stony Mountain Lookout Tower. The descent follows Rattling Run Road down the south side of Third Mountain and back to Ellendale Road.
