“Classic” is an understatement in describing this ride. From the Sideling Hill picnic area, you embark on a tenacious descent down into the depths of Roaring Run drainage. A visit to the Cliff Trail Vista is a short side trip that is worthy of a photo or two. The view east over the farms and fields of Allens Valley is quite impressive. The trail progress from mellow to maddening as the wide grassy woods road tapers down into the lush, damp, dark hollow on rocky singletrack. Towering rhododendrons encase the trail and stout stands of hemlock penetrate the thick shrub layer. The sounds of the cascading creek fill the air as small birds dart in and out of the evergreen tunnel. Highlights: beautifully remote mountain drainage trail, towering rhododendron and hemlocks, numerous springs, impressive vistas, classic technical mountain riding, Sideling Hill Fire Tower, tons of side trails to explore. Tread: a combination of beautiful, grassy woods road and rugged singletrack trail comprise the majority of the ride. Small sections of fire road play a vital role in linking singletrack sections to complete the ride.
