Neshaminy State Park

Neshaminy State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This easy, flat hike first takes you to a short spur that leads you to a site on the banks of the Delaware River where you can see the skyscrapers of downtown Philadelphia, 15 miles downriver. If you pause here long enough, you may notice the effect the Atlantic Ocean’s tides have on the river as it raises or lowers the water level of the Delaware River at the rate of an inch a minute.

The hike continues to the point where Neshaminy Creek meets the river, then it’s on through a natural area and pine plantation as you make the loop back to where you started. Along the way you will discover the unique plants and animals that are found only in a freshwater estuary."

"Neshaminy State Park’s 339 acres offer a glimpse into a unique ecosystem. The park is along the banks of the Delaware River, which is tidal up to Trenton, forming a freshwater estuary. The park is a popular summertime destination because it has a pool, picnic areas, boating and fishing access, and hiking trails. The hike takes you first along the banks of the Delaware River and through a tidal marsh area. The second part of the walk is a bit more woodsy and offers good opportunities for bird-watching. The park features great amenities, including a public swimming pool." Read more

Neshaminy State Park can make you buzzy for around two hours if you like to walk next to the river. Once you get there make sure you choose the longer trail it is more interesting than walking next to the picnic tables that can be found next to the parking. If you are lucky you can encounter otters at the end of the park on the left.
