What’s open to the public is very good, but there isn’t much of it. Long before Jimmy Carter drifted a dry fly on its cold and clear waters, Spruce Creek earned a reputation for excellent hatches. You’ll find them all here with sulphurs and green and gray drakes being the most famous. You’ll also find lots of huge brown trout—many of them stocked, and in some stretches fed chow to help them grow quickly. What you won’t find is a great deal of public access. Spruce Creek is tied up in private ownership and leases. With the exception of a short stretch managed by Penn State University, you’ll pay to fish Spruce Creek. An average day on the river will cost roughly $300 for two. You’ll pay that much to drift any of the premier rivers out West. Species: Brown. Angling methods: fly-fishing only.

Spruce Creek is a private water way. Only club members and their guests can gain access. If traveling to this part of our state, fish the Little J, Spring and Penns creeks.
