Hugh Moore Park Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Like all walks along a canal, this one is flat, so the travel is easy. It’s also interesting, for a couple of reasons. It starts at the National Canal Museum. A 14,000-square-foot, two-story building, it houses exhibits on the first floor. It’s worth your time to start here—check https://canals.org for hours, admission, and seasons—so that you have a feel for what you’re looking at and how and why it was so vitally important to this region and the country as a whole.
When you’re done, turn right outside the museum doors and follow the canal along the Delaware & Lehigh Canal Trail. You’ll pass some historic remnants along the way. The mechanics of the canal system are striking. The size of the gears—with impressive steel teeth, like something appropriate for a shark—speak to how serious was this business."
