McNeil Professional Review and Guide
"This camp above the Sandy River sits in an open lodgepole pine forest on Old Maid Flat—a lahar (volcanic flow of mud and debris) from Mount Hood’s active days. Sites are for the most part sunny and dry. The camp has a difficult river access but is within reach of the Mount Hood Wilderness trails and lies just off the 70-mile Mount Hood Loop Drive. The auto tour loop travels East Lolo Pass Road (paved and gravel) to the north side of the mountain, passes through Dee and Parkdale, and then follows OR 35 south and US 26 west to complete the cinch around Mount Hood."
