"As many as 100 harbor seals at a time haul out to rest and bask in the sun on offshore rocks during the summer months. From the viewpoint, you can easily scan the rocks below with binoculars or spotting scope for seals. You will find them lying on the rocks as well as swimming in the surrounding water, where often only their heads poke above the surface.The background: A common denizen of the Oregon Coast, harbor seals feed while the tide is high and then haul out onto the rocks just offshore. During the summer, as many as 100 harbor seals haul out on the rocks at Neptune State Scenic Viewpoint to bask in the sun at low tide. Strawberry Hill to bask in the sun and rest during low tide. You may see as many as 100 seals at any given time during the summer."
