"A geologically fascinating trail to one of Oregon’s largest and most beautiful alpine lakes. Even though it’s 5.9 miles to Lake Harriette, this most popular of all routes into the Mountain Lakes Wilderness goes by quickly. Each of the first 4.0 miles on the Varney Creek Trail is different from the last, and they’re all interesting. The roomy trailhead holds 30 cars. Camping is available at Lake of the Woods and Odessa Creek Campground. Mosquitoes are horrible before mid-July." Read more
