Castle Rock Trail #3506 Professional Reviews and Guides
"A day hike to a scenic summit overlooking the glacially carved McKenzie River Valley. The trail climbs around the southwest slopes before switching back again to emerge on the grassy summit meadow. The old lookout site at the northwest end of the summit ridge has the best view west, down the McKenzie River Valley, while a viewpoint a few yards east has the best view up the valley toward Mount Washington and the Three Sisters. From either viewpoint, the classic U-shape of the McKenzie Valley is readily apparent. Stream channels are normally U-shaped, while valley sides are V-shaped. But this valley was carved by a huge stream, a river of ice flowing down from the high Cascades."
