Klickitat River: Yakama Indian Reservation to Klickitat Salmon Hatchery Professional Review and Guide
"The remote upper run begins near Mount Adams, which was called “Klickitat” by Native Americans. The highest put-in is by the Yakama Indian Reservation boundary. Nonnatives are prohibited beyond here. The put-in is east of the road, down the slope, and through the woods. The long, steep slope with loose soil and many fallen logs requires use of a short line to lower a boat because a runaway boat may not stop until reaching the bottom or crushing a companion. An alternate put-in, preferred by rafters, is located 3 miles downriver at Gauging Station Campground. Once on the river, you will not want to take out because the canyon is remote and mostly inaccessible. Character: canyon; forested."
