La Grande, Ukiah, Weston Loop Professional Review and Guide
"A 170-mile paved loop drive along the Grande Ronde River, through a wildlife test area, wheat and farmlands, and into the Blue Mountains. From La Grande at 2,788 feet elevation, the drive crosses a variety of terrain and vegetation as it heads southwest through the Grande Ronde River bottomlands and plateaus to Ukiah. Turning north, it crosses Battle Mountain and descends to flat rolling wheat fields and agricultural lands near Pendleton where it parallels the historic Walla Walla Trail and the Umatilla Indian Reservation northeast to Weston.
Heading southeast, the drive climbs through the Umatilla National Forest, to over 5,000 feet near Spout Springs, then returns through a steep canyon and farmlands. Special attractions: Oregon Trail and Walla Walla Historic Trail routes, state parks and waysides, two national forests, elk habitat test area, Lehman Hot Springs, mountain and valley scenery, Umatilla Indian Reservation, and Spout Springs Ski Area."
