"A wonderful drive in the densely forested mountains above the North Umpqua River, followed by an easy, short hike through meadows, old-growth forest, and an excellent vista point to a pair of beautiful lakes. There is something surprisingly serene about this trail, even with the mosquitoes and the other hikers. Maybe it’s the shaded north slope; maybe it’s the persistent green; maybe it’s the old-growth forests. What the trek lacks in length, it makes up for in emotional pull. The vista point and lake aren’t bad either." Read more
