Dirt and paved path that takes you into a green and watery world where you’ll have fantastic views of Multnomah Falls, Multnomah Creek, Wahkeenah Creek, Wahkeenah Falls. Bridge crossings. Creek crossings. Columbia River Gorge views. Welcome to the green and watery world of the Columbia River Gorge! This trail begins at historic Multnomah Falls Lodge and takes you on an uphill odyssey on a paved path to the top of spectacular Multnomah Falls. You’ll have to brave crowds gawking at the falls the first mile, but then you’ll leave them behind and enter a gorgeous creek canyon filled with waterfalls, rocky outcrops, and fern-covered hillsides. The trail continues on its upward journey as it turns away from Multnomah Creek and winds its way across a ridge through a magnificent fir forest. It then hooks up with Wahkeenah Creek and spirals down a series of switchbacks that skip back and forth across this mossy, bouldery creek. On the way down you’ll be mesmerized by the spectacular splashes of Upper and Lower Wahkeenah Falls. You’ll finish the loop by hooking up with a short dirt path at the Wahkeenah Falls trailhead that takes you back to your starting point at historic Multnomah Falls Lodge. Rest rooms and water are available at the trailhead.
