Deschutes River State Recreation Area Professional Review and Guide
"The campground’s highly appealing tree-shaded lawn faces out on the Deschutes Wild and Scenic River, just upstream from its confluence with the Columbia River. The camp is an oasis in an arid canyon of sagebrush and basalt. There is direct river access from camp, as well as foot trails that traverse both shores. A bike trail likewise explores the canyon. The Deschutes offers world-class fishing, attracting fly fishers from around the world, and the river is equally popular with boaters and floaters. A public launch is located across the river at Heritage Landing, a day-use area. Come with binoculars for birding."
