Within its tree-lined banks, the McKenzie rushes with almost nonstop rapids between Olallie and Paradise Campgrounds. This continuous run has few play spots. The first few miles are a fun, bouncy ride. At the first bridge, a wave on the left can be surfed at some water levels. A few miles downstream lies Fishladder Rapid, class 3, the most difficult rapids on this run. It starts at a left turn just as you see powerlines ahead across the river. To scout, land on the right. This rapids is usually also scouted from the left during the shuttle. Pull off onto a dirt road at milepost 16, about 5 miles above Paradise Campground, and walk 100 yards to the river. Character: forested.
