Primarily a base for rafters, this campground occupies an arid flat on the John Day River. Only a couple of pines and scattered junipers dot the flat; the tables are paired with these trees for a retreat from the sun. The setting is one of basalt-tiered grassland rims, buttedressed skylines, and river-canyon cliffs. Fishing and swimming are other amusements.
