South Jetty Trail Professional Reviews and Guides

"This wide, paved path leads from the day-use area at South Beach State Park to the road at the south jetty of Yaquina Bay, making it a very versatile trail. It’s an accessible route through the grassy dunes, easy for wheelchairs and strollers.

It allows families to bicycle from the state park to the Oregon Coast Aquarium and marine science center (about 4 miles round trip via South Jetty Road). Beach walkers at South Beach can use it to loop back through the dunes for a change of pace."

"This route offers plenty of opportunities to view wildlife and enjoy beach activities in South Beach State Park. You’ll walk on the beach to the south jetty, where you can watch for wildlife and soak in the views of Yaquina Bay, Yaquina Bay Bridge, and the Yaquina Lighthouse. Trail surface: Sandy beach and paved path."

This quick paved trail is little more than a nice peaceful walk near the beach that's over as quick as it starts. It is a wide open, paved trail with no ocean view that goes one even mile north from the parking lot to the south jetty of Yaquina Bay. Great for a morning run if you're vacationing in the area. For a bit more excitement, take the trail north to the jetty, then turn right at the bay and walk a quarter mile east to the Old South Jetty Trail, and return through the wilderness and forest of this dirt trail. Definitely not a trail for running, and plan for lots of contact with foliage, but taking these two trails is a fun study in contrast.
