"A beautiful hike visiting numerous lakes and a magnificent trailhead drive. Easy hike to spectacular Blue Lake, with a longer option to Island Lake. The Blue Canyon area is exciting and accessible. However, many people share that opinion. In summer the route may be crowded, and horses may kick up a lot of dust. September and October are better; there are fewer visitors and mosquitoes, and you can enjoy the fall colors around Butte Falls (though there may be occasional mountain storms). There is parking for 20 cars at the beautifully landscaped trailhead. Lots of mosquitoes before mid-July. The uphill section is on the return hike. Plenty of water available." Read more
