Obsidian Trail

Obsidian Trail Professional Review and Guide

"The Obsidian Trail loop is a spectacular foray into the heart of the Oregon Cascades volcanic landscape. The area is hugely popular with hikers and backpackers, and a permit is required to limit the number of people and minimize impact on the fragile alpine environment. For those who throw their names in the hat early, a landscape filled with mountain views, crystal-clear streams, wildflowers, and waterfalls awaits.

A long, arduous run with 3,000-plus feet of elevation gain, this loop is best tackled at a slow and steady pace. With the top-notch scenery here, however, you have many reasons to allow yourself to slow down and enjoy the surroundings. The
loop can be started in multiple places, including the Scott Trailhead and the offcial Obsidian Trailhead—each just about a mile apart on OR 242."
