McKenzie, Santiam Pass Professional Review and Guide
"A 130-mile signed scenic loop through high mountain lava fields, past lakes and waterfalls. The loop portion from Sisters is a National Forest Service Scenic Byway. The central loop takes you to some spectacular high country and a variety of scenery, from magnificent snow-capped peaks, to lava beds and graceful waterfalls. Since the highway is sixteen feet wide, steep and winding, it is not recommended for trailers, and vehicles over fifty feet long are prohibited.
Special attractions: Outstanding views of ten spectacular mountain peaks, McKenzie Lava Beds and Dee Wright Observatory, two national forests, headwaters of the Metolius River, llama, elk, and reindeer farms, several waterfalls, and the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail. This eTrail is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more."
