This hike is quite a contrast most mountain hikes you will take. The first mile through the forest may look familiar, but once you emerge onto the harsh lava-scape that makes up the majority of this hike, it is a fascinating discovery of the geologic forces that formed these mountains. From trailhead to the summit only took us one hour. My GPS indicated it was only 2.4 miles. Not a hike you would want to do again and again, but it was a great experience nonetheless. Views of Mt. Washington, and the three Sisters were spectacular.
