East Fork Illinois River

East Fork Illinois River Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A glacier-carved river canyon surrounded by high mountains and lined with old-growth forest featuring a wilderness route and an option for an easy day hike. The described hikes feature sections on the 9.9 miles of East Fork Illinois River Trail between the Osgood Ditch Trailhead (lower) and the (upper) junction with the Black Butte Trail in the Siskiyou Wilderness.

The upper trailhead can only be reached by hiking in via Black Butte Trail or the Young’s Valley / Raspberry Lake Trail. The described hike does not use the official East Fork Illinois Trailhead (which you’ll pass driving to the Osgood Ditch Trailhead). The trail from the East Fork Illinois Trailhead is a confusing disaster of ATV tracks, bunny trails, and old mining roads. The Osgood Ditch Trail, not far away, is much easier to follow and a better hike."
