Of the 50 or more miles of boatable water on the Siletz River, this stretch has the most whitewater. Several possible put-ins vary the run’s distance from 3 to 12 miles. At flows above 8 feet on the gauge, the river is swift, and a 12-mile run from Elk Creek to Moonshine County Park is an easy day. Buck Creek is the normal put-in and provides about 2.5 miles of warm-up class 2 rapids before Silache (Sil-at-chee) Rapid, the most difficult stretch on this run. Character: second-growth; canyon.
