"A 180-mile drive on a National Forest Service Scenic Byway through the Rogue and Umpqua River valleys, past lakes and waterfalls into the southern Oregon Cascade Mountains. From Roseburg, the drive heads east through the Umpqua River’s spectacular narrow canyon, climbs into the Cascades, and reaches a high point of 5,820 feet. A side trip to Crater Lake National Park increases the elevation to 7,100 feet. The southern section descends through thick forest along the Rogue River Gorge and a reservoir lake, and concludes in orchards and farmland. Special attractions: Umpqua and Rogue Wild and Scenic Rivers, waterfalls, mountain lakes, narrow rugged canyons, wilderness, Crater Lake National Park, State Parks, historic inns, camping, fishing, and winter recreation.
